Q.How much Plastic Waste is generated in India?
Asked by:Raginee on 23/01/2019
Ans#1 25940 Tonnes Per Day (TPD) is Plastic Waste generated in India everyday. The is based on the data shared by the Government. Out of the above 50% waste is contributed by five major cities (Delhi - 689 TPD, Chennai - 429 TPD, Kolkata - 425 TPD, Mumbai - 408 TPD and Bengaluru - 313 TPD).

At present only about 40 % of the above is collected and balance is left to chock the drainage or cause water/ land pollution. Single use plastic which can not be recycled is another worry. Taking a serious note of this, India has voluntarily committed to eliminate single use plastic by the Year 2022.

Ans#1

The Haryana Assembly in September 2015 had passed the Haryana Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Act 2015 wherein educational qualification has been made as one of the prerequisites for candidates who were contesting the panchayat elections. As per the amendments minimum educational qualification required is as given below:

  • General Candidate            Pass in Class 10
  • Woman Candidate            Pass in Class 8
  • Reserved Category Candidate   Pass in Class 5

Among the other conditions was that the persons against whom charges have been framed by the competent court for grave criminal offenses punishable by not less than 10 years of imprisonment will not be allowed to contest the elections till they are acquitted by the court. Another amendment was that only those persons who have cleared their outstanding electricity bills would be eligible to contest. Defaulters of co-operative loans were to be debarred from contesting. It was also mandatory for the candidates to have toilets in their houses.

The amendment has been protested by many political parties and prospecting candidates. However, Suprement Court in his verdict delivered on 10th December 2015 has found the above amendment a right decision.

Q.Why India needs Rules for Flying Unmanned Ariel Vehicles (UAVs) by public?
Asked by:Reena Gaur on 14/07/2015
Drones Ans#1 The Indian Government has put a ban on flying drones in India since October 2014. Although, buying of the drones can be easily made from on-line stores. The cheapest drones cost as low as ₹2,000, but none of them carry any warning, saying it is not legal to fly drones in India.

The ban will be in place for private organizations and individuals till the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) works out regulations for commercial use of drones. And that is not going to be easy given that the move will require clearance from the air navigation service provider, the ministries of defence and home affairs as well as other agencies concerned.

Very few countries have regulations governing the usage of drones for commercial applications. The United States of America has notified regulations for use of what it calls Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in May 2015. However, there are challenges for both the FAA and the aviation community as it had the busiest, most complex airspace in the world.

Q.How "One Rank One Pension" Demand gets so much support?
Asked by:Reena Gaur on 15/06/2015
Ans#1 One Rank One Pension (in short named as OROP) is an old demand of Indian military personnel. The term means armed forces personnel holding the same rank and same length of service will get the same pension, regardless of the last drawn pay.

Generally, the pension pay is fixed based on the last drawn salary before superannuation. The pensionable salaries are also revised when regular salaries go for revision every five years, but not in the same proportion. On account of this a military personnel retired 20 Years back receives much less pension when compared to a same ranked military personnel retiring now with same length of service.

The government has accepted the demand of one rank one pension in 2014 and accordingly allocated ₹1000 Crores for this scheme. However due to some technical calculations and interpretations to be concluded, there has been a delay in the implementation of the scheme.

Upset over the delay in the implementation of the OROP, ex-servicemen across the country have decided to go on a relay hunger strike from 15th June 2015. Agitation is likely to continue as per media reports till the government announces a firm date for the introduction of OROP. Indian government has said that it is committed to “One Rank One Pension”, one of its key poll promises, and will take all possible actions to implement the same.

Q.Whether GM Mustard is being allowed to grow in India?
Asked by:Reena Gaur on 19/05/2015
Modified Mustard Ans#1 Delhi University was carrying on final field trials of Genetically Modified (in short called as GM) Mustard from August 2014 onward and is about to submit a favorable report to the Government shortly. The researchers working on the project have concluded that bio-safety studies did not show any adverse allergenic, toxic or environmental impact. Introduction of GM Mustard promises India a chance to substantially reduce import bill as it would be the highest-yielding oil-seed in India, with yields 26-34 per cent higher than the national average.

On the other side, there are views against allowing GM crops in India. The Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) has been opposing the field trials of GM Crops. The field trials as per BKS will destroy the entire agrarian economy of this country because Scientists have no clue about the long term impact.

Maharashtra Government has also given all clearances for trials of GM rice, chickpeas, corn and aubergine, as well as new varieties of cotton. Some of us may remember, GM Cotton developed by Monsanto Co. and launched in India in 2002 has also gone through a lot of controversies.

Q.Why "Green Peace India" has come under watch of Indian Authorities?
Asked by:Reena Gaur on 25/04/2015
Green Peace Ans#1 Greenpeace India has received sanction of the Indian Government in the back drop of activities carried out by the organization towards fulfilling the vested interest of funding agencies/ countries.

Not only the organization has been found to be have violated disbursement/ expenses made out of the grants received but also acted/ supported the objectives set by US based Climate Works Foundation (CWF), the primary funding agency. Greenpeace was invited for testifying against India in the formal hearing in the UK Parliament. The organization also participated in a Conference (in Istanbul) which resolved to increase activism against thermal power plants, many of them are India.

CWF later has provided a grant of Rs. 1.4 Crores to Greenpeace India for working on the resolution of the conference. Accordingly, Greenpeace came up with a three-pronged strategy: to create a network of anti-coal protest movements, target coal block allocations with regulators and in courts/ tribunals; and campaign among domestic/ foreign investors against Coal India Limited.

The MHA also charged the NGO with incurring over 50 per cent of foreign donations on administrative expenditure during 2011-12 and 2012-13 without prior approval; and willfully suppressing details on salary payment by Greenpeace International to “Greenpeace activist” Mr. Greg Muttitt, who worked on secondment with Greenpeace India for over five months in 2013-14.

Q.What is the WordPress?
Asked by:Reena Gaur on 18/08/2015
WordPress Ans#1 WordPress is a free and open source Blogging Tool and Content Management System(CMS) that is powered by the PHP Web programming language and MySQL database. In simple language, WordPress is a web platform that gives you tons of features and functionality without requiring a high level of expertise in web programming after the site is developed. There are three major parts to a WordPress installation, other than the basic WordPress code itself: themes, plugins, and widgets.

  • Themes drive the look and feel of your site. They define what the pages look like without altering the content within those pages. If you are already using WordPress, you can make your website look dramatically different in just a few easy steps by changing themes, while all of your content stays the same. You can purchase pre-made themes or create your own custom theme. Pre-made themes are good for businesses starting out who just need a quick cheap website up. Custom themes are for businesses who are already somewhat established and are ready to generate leads, sales, and gain credibility online.
  • Plugins allow you to extend the functionality of your website beyond the features that are included with the basic WordPress installation. For example, a plugin could be used to add a music player to your pages without requiring you to do any web programming to make it happen. Other plugins can add eCommerce functionality to your pages or just about anything else you can think of.
  • Widgets give you drag-and-drop sidebar content placement, as well as helping you implement some of the extended capabilities of your plugins. Widgets can be used to highlight the last few blog articles you posted, for example, or to embed your Twitter feed into your Web page.
