USA is the largest producer of Corn in the world with annual production of 360 million tons grown in 90 million acres every year. China and Brazil are the 2nd and third largest producers of corn with annual production much less than USA at 215 million tons and 75 million tons respectively. The vast majority of corn produced in the USA becomes animal feed, fueling other great food industry – meat. Much of the rest of it is processed into sweeteners, corn oil, and industrial products like ethanol fuel. Very, very little of it actually makes it to dinning tables of the Americans. Most of the countrymen avoid eating the Corn produced locally because of the fact that almost all of the corn produced in the USA is genetically modified, and GMO-wary consumers want none of it. Thus, the world’s largest producer of corn has been forced to import organic, non-GMO corn from other countries — an agricultural irony that not only touches upon on growing mistrust of modified crops, but more reliance on animal protein. |

Metropolitan cities across the globe have very high population density, need too much of power, generate lot of waste and always choked with vehicles. A smart city will have in-built solutions from the very inception to deal with the problems highlighted above. Transforming an existing metropolitan city into a smart city is always a dream but very difficult to realize when compared to planning a smart city at an appropriate location. The
city planners need to focus on the following key criteria to build a

Shri Prashant Bhusan and Shri Yogendra Yadav have been removed from the Parliamentary Affair Committee (PAC) by voting margin of 3 votes against them on 4th March 2015. Both the leaders have been considered to be founding members who have contributed immensely in laying the foundation and initial popularity gain for the party in the parliamentary elections held in 2014. Within a year difference among the top leaders of AAP have emerged and reached to a level wherein the PAC was almost divided in nearly into two halves (11 Votes for ouster of both the leaders and 8 votes against it).In a joint statement released by APP Leadership on 9th March 2015 has stated that when all the volunteers were working towards making AAP win in Delhi Legislative Assembly Elections, at that time three of our senior leaders were working to make the party lose. The three leaders are Shri Prashant Bhushan, Shri Yogendra Yadav and Shri Shanti Bhushan. It appears that the promise of transparency assured by AAP is losing to the speculations by the general public of not only Delhi but Country as a whole, whether the above statement is true and if yes, how? The Aam Aadmi Party's decision to remove senior members Shri Yogendra Yadav and Shri Prashant Bhushan from the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) seems to have not gone down well with not just some party members but also with AAP volunteers. Therefore there is a lot of reaction from all corners about the decision. |

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2015, seeks to replace an ordinance promulgated in December 2014 which had amended certain provisions of the 2013 act passed during the UPA rule. The proposed bill has been passed by the Lok Sabha after the government carried out nine amendments to it and persuaded most of its allies to support, setting the stage for its consideration in Rajya Sabha where the numbers are not in favour of the government. The now much-maligned Land Acquisition Act of 1894 had come under fire time and again because it had been grossly misused — the concept of public purpose had become implausibly elastic, the compensation levels awarded varied but seldom matched levels of decency, affected parties had very few credible claims and the urgency clause was abused. The government has offered minor amendments. But most of them are designed to display its consistent ability to be too clever by half rather than its ability to address deep issues. The 2013 bill had attempted to address three resulting deficits:
The key points which were removed from the earlier law related to the consent clause and the social impact assessment study. The consent clause provided for 70-80 per cent of those dependent on the land to agree to its acquisition. The social impact assessment clause entailed carrying out a study to examine the environmental impact and ensure rehabilitation of displaced people. There are some more concerns raised now about the way the bureaucracy would implement it. And there was an interesting question whether a one-size-fits-all approach is desirable for different states as well as urban and rural areas, given the diversity of root level conditions. A majority of opposition parties, including the Congress, the Samajwadi Party and the Left parties, have already made it clear that the bill should go to a select committee. |
